Narnia

This week, I finally finished reading The Lord of the Rings! ;) Yay! If you’re a long time reader of this blog, you might have remembered my 2011 Challenge: Read the Classics. I never got around to finish it. ;( Finding specific classic books in thrift stores are a bit hard and cost a bit of my time. It’s great there are lots of ebooks online. I can now read via my phone! I was thinking of saving up for an ebook reader. ;)

I’m now currently on the third book of the Chronicles of Narnia – The Horse and His Boy. Reading Narnia feels like I’m a child again. The first book (The Magician’s Nephew) tells how the world of Narnia began (out of nothing but darkness) and how the White Witch (Empress Jadis) entered Narnia. It’s more like the same in how the world began in the Bible, with Aslan as the “Almighty” Lion. When during the beginning of all things, there’s already evil.

This week had also been one of the lowest points in my life. I was never fond of doing confrontations and it’s frustrating to think that somebody had taken advantage of my kindness, and had overlooked my efforts. It’s too depressing to think about it but hopefully it made her happy. *sigh*

What are you reading today?

Lately, I miss reading a good book. Besides my love for Nancy Drew (it’s something that I think every little girl should not miss to read) and Michael Crichton (sci-fi adventures), I also have the longing to get my hands on something classic. This week, I’m currently reading Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. ;)

Withdrawing from the challenge

It’s August! Yay. Four months until December comes. This reminds me of something I posted way back. My 2011 challenge was to read the classics! Oh my. I still got four months to go but sadly, my heart is not in it. ;D I just can’t seem to finish anything that I’m reading. Oh well. I think I will not be pursuing the challenge anymore. ;( I’ll read whatever I want when I feel like reading it. Now, I feel like reading Nicholas Sparks books! I’m over Michael Crichton but I still got Pirate Latitudes to read.;) What book are you reading today?

Redesigned Harry Potter book covers

I’ve been browsing through my StumbleUpon bookmarks when I found these. The Harry Potter movie came out almost two weeks ago, and still the Harry Potter mania haven’t died down, probably never will. I’ve read ALL of the books but I never own one but someday I will. ♥

Michela Monterosso wished the Potter book covers would be less childish and more “contemporary” so she came up with her own redesigns!

But my favorite redesigns are from M.S. Corley. They’re made to look like classic Penguin books!M.S. Corley's Harry Potter book cover redesign

Michael Crichton reading marathon

I haven’t been blogging much this March. What I’ve been up to? Hehehe… I’ve been reading a lot of Michael Crichton books lately! ;) They’re so addicting. *sigh* I’m planning to finish all of his books before April ends. I’m about to finish the Sphere right now and I will then move on to reading the Congo. Now I’m worried about my Read the classics challenge for 2011. Looks like I still have 8 to 9 months to go finish the challenge and lots of books to read! Scary.

Here’s the list of Crichton’s novels that I still have to finish. Titles that have line-throughs (or strike-throughs) are books that I’ve already finished. Science fiction rocks. ♥

  1. The Andromeda Strain
  2. The Terminal Man
  3. The Great Train Robbery
  4. Eaters of the Dead
  5. Congo
  6. Sphere
  7. Jurassic Park
  8. Rising Sun
  9. Disclosure
  10. The Lost World
  11. Airframe
  12. Timeline
  13. Prey
  14. State of Fear
  15. Next
  16. Pirate Latitudes

Challenge: Read the classics in 2011

Everyone’s been having reading challenges for 2011. These past few years,  (I couldn’t remember which particular year, though), I’ve managed to read a lot of Nicholas Sparks and M. Crichton books and these all time classics.

  • The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (my absolute favorite)
  • The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells

This coming 2011, I will be challenging myself to read the classics! ♥ They aren’t exactly ten books if you look a little bit more closely at my list.

  2. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  3. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

I need suggestions on books to read

I’ve been at it again with pocketbooks for the whole day today. It’s really nice to curl up in bed with a good book. That’s the reason why it’s been long since my last post. I do log in sometimes to work on the blog layout, play Sorority Life on my Facebook, and do some stumbling on SU.  I just finished reading Jeffrey Deaver’s The Broken Window and I’m already on Camilla Morton’s How to Walk in High Heels. Next on my list are two books which I bought in BookSale – Michael Crichton’s Next and Lincoln Child’s Deep Storm. Am I starting my book collection now? Maybe yes. This might be the only time I would buy books to read. Usually, I borrow from friends. Are there any books that you would like to recommend for me to read? I don’t dig law stories right now. Once I tried reading John Grisham’s The Firm, I couldn’t even get to page 20. Any suggestions?
